RICUCC Town Meeting Update

1/31/2017

On Sunday afternoon, Jan 29, 2017, an open RI Conference UCC Town Meeting was held at the Marriott Hotel in Providence.  This meeting drew about 70 folks representing 14 of our 28 churches along with four staff members and the convener.

The Rev. Bob Naylor (retired pastor on the Cape) was the convener/moderator for this gathering. After an opening worship, folks were invited to self-identify up front as to their stance – PRO, CON, or “with Questions” – in response to the Case Statement and Resolution that had recently been voted on by the Boards of Directors of the three Conferences (Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island). Small group conversations then followed and someone at each table took careful notes of the responses to the following:

  1. Things we like about the Resolution
  2. Concerns we have about the Resolution
  3. Questions we have about the future and clarifications that are needed
All comments and responses were collected and are in the process of being collated.  Board of Directors Vice President Frances Munro will be writing up an article based on those notes
.
Please connect to this link to see the Case Statement and Resolution voted by the three Boards.

Blessings,
Interim Conference Minister, Barbara J. Libby
