The United Congregational Church of Westerly will hold a homeless awareness vigil this Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 12 noon to 12 midnight in the upper parking lot at the church (located at 9 Castle Hill Road, Pawcatuck, CT.
The hope is to raise awareness that homelessness is everyone’s problem, that Jesus tells us that we are to care always for “the least of these”, and that to truly understand the problem we need to experience it from the inside out if we have any hope of fixing it.
Here’s what will happen: Saturday afternoon will be spent constructing our “camp”. Donations of blankets, socks & personal care items will be welcome. We will hear from folks who work with the homeless as well as experience what it is like to live at the mercy of the elements. We will take turns outside by the fire and we will make the noon meal for the next day at a local Shelter. Food donations are needed. Anyone is welcome to come join us for dinner around the bonfire (bring $5 to chip in for pizza). PLEASE DRESS APPROPRIATELY!
