Hartford Climate Strike
Connecticut State Capitol, 210 Capitol Avenue, Hartford CT
Friday, September 20th from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm  

​Interfaith Prayer Service at 11:00 AM: Pam Arifian, Director of the UCC Northeast Environmental Justice Center, is working with the InterReligious EcoJustice Network to organize an interfaith prayer service in Bushnell Park prior to the Hartford Climate Strike. Following the service, we will move as a group to the rally at the Capitol steps.


South Congregational Church, Centerville, MA, events
Friday, September 20th, various times


Ten Cape Cod congregations will participate in “Bell Ringing Across Cape and Islands to Support International Youth Strike for Climate Change”. At 11 a.m. congregations will ring bells to express their commitment to respond to global climate change. Other congregations will mark the day with prayers as part of this interfaith initiative. 

South Congregational Church will hold an hour-long seminar at noon on “Spirituality and the Environment.”  This event is free and open to the public; also at 6 p.m., the church will hold a time of "Prayers for the Planet" at Craigville Beach, Osterville side (in the sanctuary if it rains). A Gathering of Solidarity in Springfield, MA

Local interfaith communities are gathering in solidarity with the Climate Strike at Court Square in Springfield, MA. Co-sponsored by First Church of Christ, Longmeadow; Springfield Climate Justice Coalition; Pioneer Valley Project; Interfaith Council of Greater Springfield; Green Team of Unitarian Universalist Society of Gr. Springfield; Holy Cross Just Faith Community; and the Environmental Justice Team of First Church.

Walk/Bike/Carpool or Take Public Transportation to your House of Worship

In support of the Global Climate Strike, the InterReligious EcoJustice Network is calling everyone to walk, bike, carpool, or take public transportation to their religious service on the weekend of Friday, Sept 20 through Sunday 22, 2019. Let's join the children of the world with an interfaith climate witness that strikes at the heart of the fossil fuel industry.

Lexington High School Student Strike, Lexington, MA  
Friday, September 20th, 9:30-11 AM


Lexington High School students will leave class at 9:55 AM and march to the football field to strike, observe a moment of silence, and sign a banner committing to take action. 

Parents and adults will gather at the Lexington Battle Green (1625 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington, MA) at 9:30 AM and walk three blocks to the high school football field with the intention of providing a circle of support for the students' strike. 
Bill McKibben was a student at Lexington High School and recently met with the students organizing this event.

Green Congregation informational table - Old South Church, 645 Boylston St., Boston
Friday, September 20th, 9-11 AM, and 1-3 PM


Standing in supportive witness of the Global Youth Climate Strike, the Old South Church Climate Change Task Force will table outside their building from 9-11 AM and 1-2 PM. The team will encourage passers-by headed to the State House, share information about what it means to be a Green Congregation, and post banners and signs in support of the strike. Boston Climate Strike

From Mass Interfaith Worker Justice: With the consequences of climate change becoming ever more clear and dire with each passing day, a new powerful wave of the climate movement has been swelling up over the last couple of years. Young people around the world have been rising up to defend our future, and have been going on strike – every week, all over the planet – for months.

Drowning in Plastic: A green forum on plastic pollution

A green forum on plastic pollution in our oceans and rivers and what we can do about it. The church will screen a 22-minute version of the powerful documentary, A Plastic Ocean, as well as hear from leading advocates on eliminating plastic pollution, including Lou Burch, Anne Hulick, and Board Members from the Town of Haddam's Sustainability Committee. Bell Ringing, Climate Action Bazaar, at First Congregational Church of West Tisbury, MA

The church will be ringing church bell for 11 minutes at 11 AM in support of the Student Climate Strike. On September 29, the congregation will be sponsoring a "climate bazaar" featuring Island-wide groups working for climate action and sustainability.
